"Use Your Tongue To Count Your Teeth" And Other Valuable Lessons We Learn From Mothers - Happy Mother's Day

Today is Mother's day, a sobering reminder that many in our generation cannot use an apostrophe correctly (just kidding...but for real tho). Our Mothers taught us RELIGION-"You better pray that does not leave a stain in the carpet.", IRONY- "Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about.", Math - "Use your tongue to count your teeth." ANTICIPATION - "Just wait until we get home. "WISDOM -"When you get to be my age, you'll understand." FORESIGHT - "Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."

As we grow older, we tend to get so caught up in the rat race that we miss out on what is wonderful in the here and now, but our mothers have helped anchor us and remind us that the best things in life are free, they made us smile, laughs, witnessed our first tooth and even our sticky fingers brought them unexpected joy (and a need to change blouse). Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.

As moms, we love being with our kids (even when they hang all over us with aforementioned sticky fingers) but eventually there comes a time when by God's Grace we have the pleasure of watching and helping our adorable little ones become wonderful, opinionated, loving, honorable adults. Teaching the most important values are respect, honesty, kindness/giving, responsibility and integrity.

Mothers have strengths that are amazing. They carry children, they carry hardships, and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. Mothers do more than just give birth, indeed there are some mothers who have never given birth but spread they love to other peoples children and become mothers to them. They bring joy, compassion and hope.

..And just in case you ever thought it was always a delight to raise you these are the statistics according to a recent poll done by Prevention magazine on the Favorite Age for Raising Kids,
  1. Those cuddly babies! (first year): 33%
  2. The tantrum years (ages 2 to 3): 13%
  3. The missing teeth years (ages 4 to 7): 30%
  4. Starting to grow up (ages 8 to 10): 15%
  5. Tween-agers (ages 11 to 12): 3%
  6. Teens (ages 14 to 18) 6%
This, below, is to show how special Mothers are :-

By the time the Lord made mothers, he was into his Sixth day of working overtime. An Angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?"

And the Lord answered and said, "Have you seen the special sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have 200 movable parts, all replaceable, run on black coffee and leftovers, have a lap that can hold three children at one time and that disappears when she stands up, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and have six pairs of hands."

The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one. "Six pairs of hands! No Way!" said the Angel.

The Lord replied, "Oh, it's not the hands that are the problem. It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have!"

"And that's just on the standard model?" The Angel asked.

The Lord nodded in agreement. "Yes, one pair of eyes is to see through the closed door as she asks her children what they are doing even though she already knows. Another pair in the back of her head is to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair is here in the front of her head. They are for looking at an errant child and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word."

The Angel tried to stop the Lord. "This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish. "

But I can't!" The Lord protested, "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can feed a family of six on a pound of rice and can get a two year old to stand in the shower."

The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, "But you have made her so soft, Lord".

"She is soft", Lord agreed, "but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."

"Will she be able to think?" asked the Angel.

The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate."

The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."

"That's not a leak." The Lord objected. "That's a tear!"

"What's the tear for?" the Angel asked.

The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride."

The Angel was impressed. "You are wonderful, Lord. You thought of everything, for MOTHERS are truly amazing."
