Being a virgin is not old fashioned, it is God fashioned

Recently I was on a plane from Johannesburg to Cape Town and I decided to while away the time by watching one of the films I downloaded offline from Netflix - "The Wedding Party".

For those who do not know much about this film, it is essentially about the planning of a wedding between a 24 year old girl, Dunni, played by Adesua Etomi and Dozie, acted by Bankole Wellington a.k.a Banky W. The couple took a vow of chastity and were looking forward to a ground-breaking first night together as a married couple.

From the film, one can deduce that Dozie has been a "player" and has been with many ladies while Dunni was a virgin.
In one of the scenes at the wedding reception, one of Dozie's ex-girlfriends, Rosie acted by Beverly Naya, got talking with her friends and discussed about the naivety of Dunni being a virgin. One of the girls sarcastically said she would Google the word "Virgin" referring to the fact that it was something of the past.

After the film, I sat thinking about the notion of a Christian being a virgin and wondered really whether Christians still believed in chastity. I have counselled people, no, Christians "dating" who did not believe in this. Some of the ladies believed that premarital sex was necessary to keep their partners interested in the relationship. They believed that there was nothing wrong as the men had pledged to marry them. So it would be nice to give them a taste of the pudding.

Some of the men really believed that they needed to know what they were going into so they demanded sex before marriage.

Now what does the Bible say about this? Yes, God put the hormones in us but He told us how to behave. He told us the reasons and the consequences of our actions. Even though He gave us free will, He gave us advice about using our free will.

For Christians dating, being a virgin is not old fashioned. Yes the world may make fun of this and tell you that this is a thing of the past but this is not true.

Would you believe the world or God? God says it is wrong.

According to one of the online resources that I usually read, Focus on The Family, "God wants us to reserve sex for marriage not because it's "bad" or "dirty," but precisely because it's such a unique, exclusive, and wonderful thing. Sex is a holy mystery. It's a powerful bonding agent that shapes and affects the relationship between a man and a woman as nothing else can. To take it outside of marriage is like taking the wine consecrated for Holy Communion and using it for a frat house drinking party."

God loves us. He designed and made Man, Woman, Hormones and Sex and said it was good. But everything has a right purpose. Seek His word to know the right purpose.

So if you are still a virgin, it is old fashioned; it is God fashioned. Any partner that cannot wait for you, is not worthy of being your partner.
